Here's how it works:
|
| Does your company have several satellite offices or locations that you need to connect together into one network? If so, you may want to consider an MPLS (Multiple Protocol Layer Switching) offering. Using MPLS and a dedicated T1 or Ethernet service at each location, your company can have a very secure network that can be used for a number of very productive applications. You can share files across all offices. By adding an Enterprise VOIP system, your employees can call each other extension to extension just as if they were in the next office. Check it out today. Written by: QuoteMyT1 Staff - Feb 8, 2012 One of the hottest new Telecom products ever to come along is the Ethernet direct to Internet connection. Infonetics Research has estimated that the market for managed metro Ethernet services will grow some 30 percent per year until 2010. Why all of the excitement for this product? Well, when a customer connects to the Internet with Ethernet, the customer is basically plugging his network directly into the provider's network. The local phone company is bypassed saving money and, typically, significantly increasing the reliability of the connection. Savings are passed on to the customer. And, a higher speed connection can be provided. Typically service packages start at 10 Megabits and are incremented up in steps of 10 Megabits. So, what about the cost? Is it really cheaper than conventional T1 or DS3? Costs are rapidly decreasing for this service. And, the faster your service, the more you will save. Consider the recent cost per Megabit of T1s, DS3s and Ethernet. Recent cost per Megabit for T1s (1.5 Megabit) has been around $290 and for DS3s (45 Megabit) around $111. The cost per Megabit of a 10 Megabit Ethernet service has been around $95 and dropping. This means that a 10 Megabit Ethernet service would cost $950 or a little more than the cost of 2 T1s (2 x $435) but would provide almost 7 times the capacity. At higher speeds the savings is much more pronounced. A 100 Megabit Ethernet service might cost around $5,000 or only $50 per Megabit compared to a DS3 (45 Megabit) that might cost around $5,000. You get over twice the speed at about the same cost. Yes, but what about the availability of Ethernet services? Today, Ethernet is not available everywhere. Typically, it is found in metro areas. But, this is changing. Carrier's networks are rapidly expanding and the service will become more readily available. Are there limitations to what can be carried over the Ethernet connection? Absolutely not. Anything that a T1 or DS3 can carry can be accommodated by Ethernet. This means that the new VOIP service you are planning or the MPLS connections to your satellite offices will work just fine on Ethernet. If your business requires more than a T1 to connect to the Internet, you really should be looking at Ethernet. Ask our friendly, knowledgeable consultants about Ethernet today.
